When we pulled off the dirt road we were greeted by the sight of a big colorful ring-necked pheasant. He didn't fly off, he just walked slowly along his way as we watched him.
We got out of the car and zipped up our coats to help deter the blowing wind. The kids were wondering where we were, we told them that this was the land that we are going to buy. We asked them if they wanted to build a house out in the field we were standing in...they said, "yeah," (but I am sure they didn't understand what that meant). In case you didn't know already, we are joining with my parents, my sister and brother in law, and some friends to buy 50 acres out in the country with plans to build houses in the future.
We walked down the steep slope to the river bank below. We got some mud on our shoes and Anna mentioned that having a shower in our future mudroom will be a practical necessity when we live out here. I thoroughly agree, in fact we might need to set up a decontamination chamber for kids to go through after they have played out in the woods all day :)
The river was flowing slowly. We measured it with a big branch and I think it was about 3-4 feet deep. Anna and I were talking about how we don't know what the 12+ acres of wilderness across the river holds. For all I know it could be unexplored territory, never touched by civilized man. There could be some ancient tribe still living on our land as they have been for a millenia. Well, probably not, but I sure am looking forward to the first time we make it across the wide river. In the mean time Joshua was trying to fill the river with sticks by throwing them in one at a time which would take a long time, so we had to ask him to stop so we could go back to the car.
On our way back to the car Joshua and Maria were so cute holding hands. I think this land is going to be a really great place to raise a family. Please pray that God will be with us as we work to build a strong Christian family culture that glorifies God.
